After a long journey with the movie series, this is finally the final one for the 7 books that it was adapted from. This is the 8th movie because the final chapter got split up into 2 theatrical presentations due to the length of it.
As expected, the movie continues from where it left off previously and there’s no summary of events that happened in part 1, so if you haven’t watched it, there might be slightly more serious gap to fill in. Even for me, partly due to me not being a hardcore fan and facing deteriorating memory, I have already forgotten some details but still don’t have problems following the developments in this movie.
Maybe it was wrong of me to be expecting an epic ending of sorts, or maybe the movie adaptation didn’t make it as epic as it should appear to be, but either way, I didn’t quite find the final showdown that impressive. Yea, the journey’s end is not too bad but I felt it’s not enough. The adventure element is still somewhat there, though I felt there’s quite a bit of rounding up of events and incidents that we should get to know of, so there’s inevitably some talking. explanation and some historical recap. Despite spending 2 movie lengths for this book, I still had the feeling of it jumping from time to time, in the sense of quickly moving on to the next phase without (much) transition and sometimes things seemed to happened out of the blue. Maybe that’s just me who hasn’t read the books =X
Visual effects wise, it’s mostly quite nicely done. Visually pleasing and some of the props and locations were created well. Oh, that’s from the 2D version of the movie as that was the version I watched. Not sure if the 3D effects and experience were up to standard, so you got to find other sources or reviews if you want to have an idea on how that went.
It’s been a long journey and now it has come to an end. Will also probably be the last time we see our (now) teenage leads in their roles here. While it was not as spectacular an end as I was expecting/hoping for, it is still a pretty decent movie. My take: 6.5/10
p.s. I wonder which movie of the Harry Potter series is the best…
