TOKYO Airport

Number of episodes: 10

Some info:
1) DramaWiki
2) Official Site (Japanese)

A drama focusing on airport operations, with particular focus on the air traffic control officers and their work. At least for me, this is something new which I have not watched before and I am sure there will be quite a lot of official jargon used related to their work since it only makes sense to have a systematic way of communicating with pilots and staff from various countries.

Of course, there will be more drama elements included into the series to make it more exciting since merely showing normal operations all the time may get a little dull after a while. I suppose these scenarios were also thought out with the help from the relevant authorities so that it can remain relatively more realistic and making sure that the ‘solutions’ used are not absurd. Nice to know a little more about airport operations through a relaxed manner such as this.

One difficulty that many viewers may have is to get accustomed to the English with Japanese accent as the communication is done in English with appropriate shortforms and way of expressing information in orderly and concise manner. Perhaps the cast’s accent is heavier as they probably don’t converse in English as much, but I am pretty sure having this accent problem is not limited to Japan alone, hence making the communication done in pre-determined format is all the more important. Well after a while I got used to the accent, so it probably isn’t too much of an issue with the real staff.

The cast also performed much better than I had expected, based on some of their past roles. They really look like a team on many occasions even though we all know it is scripted. Good to know that they can have such performances. Hopefully that won’t be the last I see of this. Somehow, the series seemed to go by fairly quickly and I finished it before I knew it. Probably has something to do with getting to know some of the new things during the initial phase that made it feel faster than it should. At least, I was trying hard to grasp the accent and also to see the entire radar. Hah. Not a too bad series since there’s at least something new to see and learn. Pretty good experience in that sense then I suppose.

p.s. the comedy puns made by a certain character in the show is indeed… … Lol. And nice job recreating all the rooms and scenes. =D
