Another Hong Kong movie that I recently cleared (with respect to draft date), and again it involves some triads and gangs. Or at least, it appears to be some big incident that sparked off from an assassination attempt on one of the bosses of the main gangs. Given the way they co-operate and work together (actually scheme against each other while maintaining a friendly front), this incident causes much tension among the various groups and the entire movie would be about how this whole thing will unfold and whether it will ‘explode’ under pressure.

I must say the scheming element is put really into good use as we see the various heads and influential members from different groups having their own plans on how to make use of the present situation and chaos to their fullest advantage. Needless to say there will be some amounts of violence and bloodshed as you can’t expect every member to be that ‘obedient’ and stay put when the tension is high and doubt is everywhere.

There are a few clues along the way, but no clear links and evidence were given early on to confirm certain suspicions. As the movie drew closer to its end and there I was thinking of an ending to wrap things up quick and nice and at the same time explain some of the causes of the incident, the movie reveals the twist and root cause of everything in a short time frame, but sufficient to piece everything together. Probably one of the most elegant moves in the movie when you’ve seen quite a fair amount of the crude violence etc. Lol.

It may be another ‘triad movie’ from the Hong Kong movie industry, but the very end offers something different from many other movies even though the bulk of the movie is nothing too particularly new and intriguing. However, a single well done move still isn’t going to make the movie into a top class one instantly – at least it prevented it from sliding too low. My take: 6/10
