This is a sequel to Tron the film that was produced a few years prior to me even appearing on this planet. No prizes for guessing whether I watched the sequel, but I am quite a very respectable proportion of people who went to the cinemas to watch this movie probably have not viewed the prequel before, particularly those around my age group, or younger.

Well, it seems it’s not too much of a problem if you haven’t watched the prequel previously. There’s some recap on what went on in the digital world for the 20 years he was stuck in there, as his son needed some explanation on what went on. I am not sure if those events correspond to what happened in the prequel, but at least it did provide some background information for viewers to work with.

Various aspects and some parts of the world are introduced, revealed or explained during the course of the movie, but somehow I felt there was something missing about the world that makes it an attractive place to be immersed in, or supposedly so. It was meant to be utopia or the perfect place to be, but somehow it didn’t quite look nor feel like that while watching.

Plot progress wise, it was pretty much predictable for the most part and it didn’t really impress me much. Well, I guess it’s still considered an adventure from the point of view of our main character. The bad guys weren’t exactly very impressive either. They got to be better than that if they really wanted to take over the (physical) world. Haha, though I can’t imagine how programs/algorithms/functions can materialise in the real world since they aren’t like users.

Overall, it’s a pretty okay movie that has managed to integrate the use of visual effects and stuff pretty nicely in the movie but otherwise it still lacks in the other areas which will make it a great movie. Turned out to be a pretty average movie in my opinion. My take: 6/10
