Japanese title: 謎解きはディナーのあとで
Number of episodes: 10
Another mystery themed drama series, this one takes a lighter approach towards solving the cases. In some ways it can be said that it is not taken in a serious manner until the butler begins explaining the key points behind the case and proceeds to revealing the criminal. Yeah, the butler here is more capable of solving cases than the crime fighters because the latter are portrayed to be a little too simple minded (and sometimes lame) in their deduction.
Not surprisingly, most of the cases are episodic except for the final one which spans 2 episodes, a format that is somewhat familiar to me by now. What I find pretty entertaining about this drama is the occasional dorky (though sometimes overly done) moments that may even up as a helping aid in solving the case. Lol. Of course realistically speaking, this drama is not going to be one of those that sets the standard for mystery dramas because of the way cases are solved and sometimes it’s a bit stretching it while having certain assumptions in place.
Oh, another interesting part of the drama is the manga/comic styled boxes that sometimes appear as well as some other comical effects that seem to go pretty okay here. Not sure if these styles are taken from the original work or something that the producers have managed to come up from adapting this into a drama series. Seems to fit the more comical approach towards solving crimes really well.
If you are looking for a more serious type of mystery drama, then this probably wouldn’t fit very right in your books. Otherwise, sit back and enjoy a light hearted and comical series that has some mystery elements as well as perhaps have some fun in solving the case along too. Haha.
