A somewhat well-received comedy film a number of years back, something which I wasn’t exactly receptive but nonetheless happened to pick this up someday. As the title suggests, it is this duo’s journey to this particular place. And no, White Castle does not refer to a physical castle, but a fast food restaurant (chain?).
It was supposed to be a simple journey to the nearest outlet, but it ended up being one long trip with lots of “side quests”. Most of the funny and lame stuff come from these side events. How else do you expect a road trip to a restaurant to be any interesting. I think there are a number of references to common trends/cultures in America as well as some stereotyping but I could only really grasp a handful of them. Perhaps it is this aspect of poking fun at those issues that made it somewhat popular too.
The M18 rating should be due to the drug use as well as some partial nudity. Again, nothing too serious except that I can’t really see the craze over marijuana. But it does provide opportunities for stupid things to happen on their journey to White Castle. Hah.
Overall, I think it is quite okay as a comedy but it is probably a pity I couldn’t grasp all the references they were trying to put at. There’s also a sequel for, which I think has some relation to events at the end of this movie. I’ll find out if and when I pick up the sequel. The duo work pretty well together, which makes the movie that much more entertaining. My take: 6/10
p.s. I wonder if those burgers are really that nice/worth to eat.
