A collaboration between TV stations from Japan and Hong Kong, this 2 part special, not surprisingly, does take place in both of these places and of course involving members from their respective home countries. Haha.
Anyway, it’s about these 2 people who sort of ran away from facing their family’s noodle (ok one of it is udon) shop. Mei Lan (the lead actress for this 2 part special) decided to return to her grandfather’s fishball noodle shop but it has lost its original unique flavour as the original chef is no longer the one handling the food preparation and cooking.
So this Japanese guy, who ran away from home and went to HK to look after some cat for some girl, bumped into her and so their paths crossed. Together, they try to recreate the tasty fishball noodles but just couldn’t find something good enough. So as I had expected, they went to Japan in the 2nd episode in hope of learning something new that would help them in their quest.
Well to cut things short, what they came up in the end was kinda like a fusion of the 2 types of noodle dishes. But I guess what was more important was about how they went about finding what was suitable as the flavour they wanted and as to what constitutes of a flavour that people would agree as being good and so on.
If anything, there’s quite a bit of Cantonese and Japanese spoken, and not surprisingly it’s a little weird when they try to speak something not of their native language. Though I find Mei Lan speaking Japanese less awkward. Haha.
Overall, it’s a pretty ordinary 2 part special if you ask me, though there are a few heartwarming moments. Not much of lighthearted moments though, heh.
