Hoho, another older series (some 7 years ago) that I picked up not too long ago. Quite obviously, this drama will be highly related to F&B, and in this case, the French restaurant. Abe Hiroshi plays an ex-manager of a big French restaurant but decided to quit after his restaurant got bought over when his brother (the head chef) ran away. He didn’t like the new management and decides to leave.

At the same time, a pair of sisters arrived at Tokyo, thinking that they would be of help, only to find out that he has quit his job. But after tasting her cooking, he decides to give it a shot and set up a smaller restaurant. The new head chef isn’t professionally trained like those in big restaurants but she has the ability to cook something that will warm the hearts of the customers after getting to know them. Lol, that’s the interesting part about her I guess. Haha. And yeah, it’s pretty much guessable that the rest of the show would be how this new restaurant struggles to get by with all the obstacles and troubles they face.

Right, of course we will get to see a selection of French dishes. I must say they really look nice, but the portions are really small. The essence of fine dining perhaps? And of course, the ingredients used are also kinda expensive. Haha. As such, the appeal (of the food shown) isn’t that great to me. Oh, but at least there is quite a wide variety of dishes shown due to the different stories and customers which greatly influence the outcome of the food prepared.

There’s also quite a number of comedy moments but it’s not really the central theme. It’s more of like a “side dish” that is served with the main. Haha, just to add extra bits of entertainment here and there I suppose. Oh, and the theme song is actually by Ayumi Hamasaki, which the music surprisingly fits the show’s atmosphere well at times. Heh.

Overall, it’s quite an okay drama with an opportunity to see various French dishes I suppose. So those who actually like French cuisine shouldn’t really watch this on an empty stomach. =P

One Fifth

29 08 2009

The semester started not too long ago, yet about a fifth of it has gone by before exams arrive for the majority of us who will face at least some papers at the end of another school term. It seems fast that so much of the semester has gone by, but of course, it is probably the most easy-going and slow-paced part of the semester thus far, since most modules haven’t really gone into full speed yet. Well then, just another 4 portions of this time frame and the semester will be near its end. Something to look forward to? Or would I dread in time to come that time passes by too quickly? Heh, only time will tell. The irony.

School isn’t exactly fun and exciting so far. I mean, I don’t get to look forward to things like specially made ham and cheese breakfast. Okay, that was a joke. But seriously, somehow the modules this semester aren’t interesting. Not that I am usually enthusiastic about school and modules, but I feel that it’s somewhat worse this time. I wonder if it’s the combination I’m taking, the depth at which some modules go into, or simply because the subconscious me is still not in school mode yet. I know I do need to pick myself up like real soon before I’m consumed by the depths of the workload, but I guess that’s gonna be easy since that’ll require quite some strength =P Lol.

On a side note, all the reviews that you see being published ever since school began were actually drafted and written before the term started. In fact, I haven’t really watched much show since 3 weeks back. Probably even less than zong. =P Oh well, but those game videos entries are done up more recently as the media are uploaded by various people onto YouTube. Definitely spending less time blogging these days but I’ll try to continue to make daily updates for as long as I can manage.

Speaking of which, yesterday’s entry actually came after midnight, which really meant that there’s 2 entries today (including this one). Well, I KO-ed in bed for a time period much longer than I thought I would have. Hopefully there’s nothing wrong with me, be it physically or otherwise. Not exactly the best of times to have something (bad) crop up. I guess I will need to observe myself over the next few days and make sure that everything is fine. =P Don’t worry, I think I am still all right at the moment. =)

For the sharp-eyed readers, you would have probably noticed a new banner/link that I’ve added at the side. It does mainly movie reviews, though there are some exceptions every now and then. And it’s updated every day too. Just added for the fun of it ‘cos it seems pretty good. =) Not that I think I will contribute much to its growth or anything. Haha. Of course, I’m not going any reward for saying all these. =)

Well, I guess there’s only this much I can manage to squeeze out to write, without putting anything that I don’t want to. =P See you in September! =D

p.s. if you understood the lame jokes put into the wall of text above and got some entertainment for it, then good for you. Otherwise, too bad that you went through yet another boring entry. =P

One Piece Movie 9

Oh, this is another retelling of one of the arcs in One Piece, but with a twist. The timeline’s sort of messed up since there are newer crew members than chopper present in the movie, as well as their new ship and of course, Luffy’s Gear abilities.

With that means there will be quite a fair amount of original content since well, there are things present that are only “existent” in the future. Yeah, that means new scenes and reworking of animation and artwork to present this movie. Lol, there might be quite a number of differences but at least the crux of Chopper’s story is pretty much unaffected (I think).

For me, I guess it’s more of a recap of Chopper’s story and probably seeing some new actions and fights that wouldn’t have been possible back in the original storyline. Haha, other than that I guess this movie doesn’t really stand out in that sense. I’m not sure how die-hard One Piece fans responded to this movie though. Haha.

Well, I guess no harm having a little more One Piece fun, though the main story was already good enough in my opinion. =D

Detroit Metal City (movie)

Based on a popular manga, Matsuyama Kenichi takes on another role that adds on to this memorable roles. Haha, he plays 2 different roles here, one being the shy Negishi in daily life and the other being the crazy Death Metal vocalist in his job. Quite the 2 extreme types of characters, lol.

Anyway, I don’t particularly like the Death Metal part cos it’s a little way too over for me, but decided to watch this movie anyway since quite a number of people were talking about this, as well as seeing what the hype is about anyway. I end up skipping the death metal song parts cos I don’t like them. =P But it’s still quite ok otherwise, seeing how Matsuyama plays out his character, being torn between his real self and his job requirement.

Yeah the NC-16 is probably due to the strong language used, as one can expect from death metal kind of music. Not very much to my liking, but I guess that’s one of the themes of the story. Perhaps this is one of the things that actually made people like this movie. Hic.

Overall, I think Matsuyama did a pretty good job with his role, though that doesn’t change the fact that I don’t like the genre of music that DMC performs. My take: 5.5/10
