Hoho, another older series (some 7 years ago) that I picked up not too long ago. Quite obviously, this drama will be highly related to F&B, and in this case, the French restaurant. Abe Hiroshi plays an ex-manager of a big French restaurant but decided to quit after his restaurant got bought over when his brother (the head chef) ran away. He didn’t like the new management and decides to leave.
At the same time, a pair of sisters arrived at Tokyo, thinking that they would be of help, only to find out that he has quit his job. But after tasting her cooking, he decides to give it a shot and set up a smaller restaurant. The new head chef isn’t professionally trained like those in big restaurants but she has the ability to cook something that will warm the hearts of the customers after getting to know them. Lol, that’s the interesting part about her I guess. Haha. And yeah, it’s pretty much guessable that the rest of the show would be how this new restaurant struggles to get by with all the obstacles and troubles they face.
Right, of course we will get to see a selection of French dishes. I must say they really look nice, but the portions are really small. The essence of fine dining perhaps? And of course, the ingredients used are also kinda expensive. Haha. As such, the appeal (of the food shown) isn’t that great to me. Oh, but at least there is quite a wide variety of dishes shown due to the different stories and customers which greatly influence the outcome of the food prepared.
There’s also quite a number of comedy moments but it’s not really the central theme. It’s more of like a “side dish” that is served with the main. Haha, just to add extra bits of entertainment here and there I suppose. Oh, and the theme song is actually by Ayumi Hamasaki, which the music surprisingly fits the show’s atmosphere well at times. Heh.
Overall, it’s quite an okay drama with an opportunity to see various French dishes I suppose. So those who actually like French cuisine shouldn’t really watch this on an empty stomach. =P
