Another successful series in Japan with many sequels, I finally managed to pick this up. It wasn’t easy finding a series that’s a decade old. Even finding a picture for this wasn’t trivial. Most of the results returned me later seasons (2 and 3).

Not particularly “well-versed” with Japanese dramas which are a little dated, but this is the oldest medical-based series I’ve watched so far. It’s probably one of those series that sets some kind of standard for this genre of drama.

Perhaps being the era it was filmed in, the style of directing and presentation is a little different from the recent medical dramas I see, but it’s still generally quite nicely done. The only thing is that certain scenes are very obviously well-scripted because the actions of victims as well as analysis and actions of the medical staff are sometimes in perfect sync when the situation is supposed to be rather chaotic and unorderly. Haha.

Besides all the emergency cases that keep getting sent in, there are also the drama aspects of the show which focus on human emotions, relationships as well as other things not really pertaining to medical issues. It can be a little draggy as compared to their decisiveness when it comes to the emergency cases, but it’s still pretty much quite all right. A balance in fast and slow-paced events I suppose. Haha. Of course, there are also some interesting incidents here and there to make the story less boring. Mostly quite nicely done I think.

Overall, it’s a pretty nice drama although you can really tell it’s a drama that has quite some age now. Will be watching the sequels some time soon, hopefully before school starts. Haha, so many series I said I want to watch huh. Hic, need to clear faster =P
