Even after watching the drama, I have no idea why the picture is designed as such, but oh well it’s hardly an important factor when it comes to the actual quality of the drama. Prior to watching the show, I’ve heard the theme song quite a while ago, and just by hearing it, it’s not hard to tell that this drama will have quite a number of sad (emotional) portions to it, even though the song is nice lah. =X
True enough, there are quite many sad scenes, revolving both the leads (see picture). With the inclusion of complicated relationships between many of the important people in the story, it makes the progress kind of slow, and sometimes a little boring too, probably due to the pace of things. Kanon (played by Horikita Maki) faces quite a number of problems since the start because of her (and her brother’s) background, which often led to her being outcast/bullied/ostracised/discriminated etc. Junya (played by Kitagawa Yujin) on the other hand, has to deal with his wife-to-be who has been in a “vegetable” state since a few years back.
To be honest, there really isn’t much to the development of the plot. Things just moved slowly so that the series doesn’t end pre-maturely without allowing the characters to have more time to interact with one another, so that they can learn more about their and other people’s feelings. Perhaps it’s because I don’t like such slow-paced drama, especially when the series isn’t especially long in terms of episode count, I kind of found this show to be quite a disappointment.
However, I think the cast generally did a good job in their roles, especially with all the slow, emotional scenes they have to handle. Of course, there are still quite a number of occasions that I thought that the expressions were kinda unnatural and forced, maybe due to too many NGs on that particular scene or something. Haha.
What I think that is best about the show is, really, the theme song! Hahaha. I have no idea why, but it seems that Utada seems to do a great job when it comes to having theme songs of drama serials. Not the first time I found it to be nice and fitting for the drama’s atmosphere and mood. Oh well, a drama shouldn’t be just about the theme song after all. Hic
Overall, I didn’t quite like this drama probably due to the pacing of the story. It’s too slow for my liking, even though there are some emotional scenes that were handled well. Oh well, I’m sure there are plenty of people out there who enjoyed this show much more than I did. =)
