Yup, if you noticed it, I put an extra tag behind because there’s a TV drama based on the same original story (I think it’s a novel or something…) and according to AsianMediaWiki, there’s going to be a sequel movie to this show.

And for those who know me well enough, you can probably guess the reason why I picked this movie up. Not that I’m an avid fan of medical related dramas and movies, but rather, this movie stars Abe Hiroshi and Takeuchi Yuko, 2 stars that I think are good in the roles they undertake. =)

Before you start wondering, neither of them are part of the surgical team that does all the Batista operations. Abe plays an official from the Ministry investigating the recent deaths from Batista operations while Takeuchi plays a doctor in the same hospital that belongs to another department, totally not related to surgery and stuff who was asked to do an internal investigation prior to the knowledge of intervention from the Ministry.

While it is medical related, I think that this movie is more of a crime solving mystery as it soon suggests that there’s intentional malicious act to cause the operation to fail. Investigations take place but it isn’t easy to pinpoint the culprit as everyone seemed to have their own reasons for possible sabotaging as well as there were no obvious and blatant proof that surfaced early.

I must say that the beginning parts can be a little draggy and dull, but as it went on things were starting to piece together, and it looked set to be a promising show. One of the causes was pointed out sometime later in the show and I thought it was kind of the end of it, but turns out that there’s a little twist to it – the real culprit is another person. Turns out to be someone with a warped mentality of enjoying the sight of the panic in the operation theatre when the heartbeat does not return after Batista has completed (how Batista works is explained earlier in the movie, and there are many cases to show part of the process).

As expected, I think both Abe and Takeuchi once again have undertaken their roles well and managed to put the emphasis on them when necessary even though the story and plot is supposed to revolve around the Batista team. However, the movie isn’t all that special and outstanding, so it ends up with a 6/10.

p.s. I wonder how closely related is this movie’s story in relation to the TV drama one. I shall see in due time. And tmr’s CNY liaoz. Happy New (牛) Year to all! =D
