Before the Sem Starts…

10 01 2009

With the semester starting on Monday, I had a couple of outings to enjoy over the last few days before heading back to NUS to tackle yet another 5 modules and more school work. Yea, on Wednesday I met up with some buddies from NS while yesterday, it’s a makan + movie session with my goody JC friends =D Yah, I shall just write about both in a single entry.

Wednesday’s meeting is mainly a small get-together (actually eating + chatting) for the few of us, with Jeff coming back from Australia after MIA-ing for a year (no lah, studying there). Yup, just a simple meet-up after so long, with everyone busy with their respective university life and such. Prior to meeting the guys, I stopped by Zone X to play a bit of ID4 and decided to try my hands at Melty Blood: Actress Again. Somehow, I managed to complete the latter without knowing exactly how the system works (even after hands on and some observations before) and playing totally like a noob. Haha, maybe I should read up a bit on it when I feel like it. Haha.

Anyway, after meeting up and walking around for a bit at Suntec we finally ended up at nydc. The food’s pretty okay and not too pricey considering a restaurant in that part of Singapore. We did spend quite a lot of time chit chatting, catching up with each other since we last met. That’s just the first stop =P We then proceeded to TCC more for a dessert kind but end up ordering some beverage. Of course, we did end up talking a lot until it was almost 10 (lol) and had to leave cos it’s very obvious that they were gonna close for the day liao. If you’re wondering what can 4 guys talk about for so long, it’s mainly a lot of uni (in and out of actually) life sharing as well as misc general topics here and there, sharing opinions on issues and stuff. Haha. It was an enjoyable session but probably there won’t be such a gathering until maybe a year later, when Jeff comes back again. Haha.

Anyway, Richie did take some pictures of the food and us and it should be up on FaceBook or something in time to come (I usually don’t bother to check for my photo updates). Haha. One thing I noticed is that it’s really quite quiet in the town area, be it at Suntec (be it at restaurants or just the general crowd along the corridors etc) or from observing the human traffic while on the bus on the way home. Either the economy’s really bad, or Wednesday’s a totally wrong day to be seeing people going out, or it’s some other reason not due to Little Nonya =P

Yup, so my other outing was yesterday. After meeting up, the 5 of us went to Sushi Kikuzawa to have a buffet although for the greater half of the day, food was served to us first, probably to let us try all the stuff, plus stuffing us up with all the rice they had on the sushi. The volume of rice to meat ratio on a typical sushi piece they served was like 4:1 or even more (my estimation is rather bad one ya? =P) so it was really like a rice eating fest, lol. Furthermore, the rate of serving got significantly slower and slower as I had to wait longer and longer between each time I picked up my chopsticks to grab some food (they served in quantities of 5). But ok lah, the taste is generally quite nice (disregarding the huge amount of rice).

Of course, the few of us have appetites much bigger than an average person on the street but too much rice is still a bad thing. So we tried to move on to other things like dessert only to find out (to our disappointment) that the puddings were only limited to 2 per person even though the menu prints otherwise. Either it’s their new way of cutting some cost, or it’s that they don’t want us to consume any more of their food. Bleah. The latter always seem to happen if the few of us go out together for a buffet. Sheesh, restaurants should really learn buffets are meant to be eat all the-customer can (must finish whatever you order of course), and not how much the restaurant is willing to allocate each customer.

Oh well, at least Dom booked their only “private room” so we sort of had a space to ourselves. The room isn’t very big so it won’t be of any use to those who have large group outings. But ok lah, at least we could talk, joke, whatnot more freely as compared to the rest of the seats, which is right in front of the chef. Haha. Yeah, it’s a small place with not many potential seats for customers. Perhaps that’s why they became quite sian diao by our eating capacity? Lol…

Anyway, there was still some time till the movie starts so we took our time walking around. Pretty much nothing happened, except for this Indian (is Indian right?) who tried to do direct sales to us. I don’t really wanna blast him too much here for all his selling “techniques” and whatnot, except that I was really put off by his selling pirate VCD example. Totally irked me. Good thing I never bother to niao him back. Oh well, at least he wasn’t being rude though he was a bit pushy so I didn’t want to make his life more difficult =P Then again, it’s probably not nice to make a small scene along Orchard Road either. Haha. Yup, the rest of the day is just a movie then a simple dinner (yeap, I can still eat after all that food =P). It’s been an enjoyable day too ^^ But I wonder when my next outing would be, with school coming in full swing soon enough. Haha, maybe have to wait until everyone’s exams end in May. Shrugs.

All right, I think I’ve written enough, and made those of you who bothered to read through the entire wall of text suffer enough, so I just end here. To those who haven’t started school, enjoy whatever is left of it!! =)

p.s. you know what to expect tmr. And I realise I’m totally lousy at writing such entries. Lol.
