Looking at the main cast for this drama series, it’s not hard to imagine that this was highly anticipated before its airing. With stars such as Yamashita Tomohisa, Aragaki Yui and Toda Erika, the series probably can’t go too wrong. Furthermore, even for the supporting cast, there are quite a number of veterans, or at least I’ve seen them around in many dramas and did their roles well. What’s left is really to see how the story is like, and probably how the main stars fare in the kind of role they do not normally undertake [if at all].
The main story centres around 4 new medical doctor interns who are sent to a hospital, where they learn to become fully qualified and experienced flight doctors, who are the people that will be sent to the scene of accident for speedier assistance to the victims which of course is supposed to increase their chance of survival. Being new to the whole task of flight doctor as well as working under very real conditions, each of them faces various problems. But lucky for them, there’s an experienced doctor around to guide them, even though he’s strict and all. Well, you can’t possibly fool around with such a sacred job. =D
Well then, the story is mainly about events that happen both within the hospital, as well as out in the field. There are quite many cases of accidents throughout the entire series. Expect to see bloody scenes here and there, so those who are a little afraid of such scenes might want to take note. But it should be ok I guess. Definitely not gross. =)
There are also features of the other full-time staff at the hospital as well as things that happen to them and their past. After all, you can’t always focus on the interns and their problems. It’ll be a little lacking in variety as well as balance [against other important characters]. The pacing overall was just right, which of course is a very important factor in drama series.
While this is a medical drama, it is essentially very different from that of the Iryu series. This series deals more with treating patients on the field as well managing some mini-crises in the hospital and emergency room. In some sense, it’s probably going to be more realistic, so much so that there are many terms used in the show that made me recall some of the things I’ve learnt during my trainee days some years back. Perhaps some understanding of the terms allowed me to get a better idea on what they mean and talk about. But of course, there are some things that are way beyond my league. =D
As for the young and main actor/actresses this is probably one of their most serious drama roles they’ve undertaken so far. On the whole, they still somehow managed to pull it off, though I think Yamapi acting in such roles is still a little weird. Maybe I’m just not used to it, or maybe it really doesn’t suit him well. But oh well, if he does manage to improve perhaps he’ll get a greater variety of roles in the future. Haha.
Overall, this series was quite an enjoyable watch although I was probably nowhere as addicted as Dom was =P Definitely one of the better series of the season. =D
p.s. I am looking forward to the special episode that will only come in early 2009. I’d probably blog about it when I’m done with that as well ;)
