Singapore’s release date for this movie is like 2 months later than US’, perhaps due to some reasons of planning movie screenings here or something, or to attract more crowd during the September holidays (for pri-jc students). Whatever it is, it doesn’t really affect my decision to catch this animated movie.
Coming from Pixar, naturally one has a tad higher expectation for their movies. Although this movie definitely doesn’t fall anywhere near being a lousy movie, it kind of falls a bit short. The story this time is still quite simple as well, you can read more about it at the wiki article which pretty much summed up the movie. Well, as usual it includes some underlying messages like [over]reliance on technology-powered gadgets, certain environmental and consumption concerns etc.
While all the efforts put into the drawing, animation and maybe even the story, some parts of the movie seemed a little draggy and stale more than being entertaining and enjoyable. Of course, there’s still its fair share of comedic moments that put a smile on your face, but somehow I felt it kind of lacked the impact as it used to. Perhaps I am missing out on something. Perhaps not.
The running time may be 103 minutes, but it’s actually taking into account of a short clip [forgot to take note how many minutes] that is shown prior to the official start of the Wall-E movie as well. That short clip is rather entertaining though. Haha.
Something I didn’t quite like about the show would be the parts where they try to make the robots communicate with each other by “speaking”. Sounds a little awkward to me although I understand why the voices have undergone some effects mixing, in order to get the “robotsy/mechy” feel? Or maybe I was a little not my usual self while watching the movie. Usually I’m more tolerant towards such things.
Not gonna give a high score this time for this movie. It’s still nice, but not exactly exceptional. My take: 6.5/10
[...] I know it’s a little behind other people’s reviews, but I just watched it the other day on my friend’s birthday. Didn’t intend to watch it since there’s no time during the semester, but since they suggested so I’m all right with it. (Jiahao’s review can be found here) [...]
