This movie is dedicated to people who were part of the team and passed away during/after the production period, namely the Joker [played by Heath Ledger] as well as a technician who died while preparing for one of the stunts in the movie.
While one can easily read the plot summary as well as quite a bit of character descriptions in the wiki article, what’s truly the essence behind this show is really the show itself, especially the performance by the Joker. The kind of sinister, menace and villainy acts, the way all these things were nicely set up from the very opening scenes were really the key in making this show to what it is. The dark side of human nature that the Joker is trying to bring out in people is certainly another point in which was very fantastically well done. Without his great performance, the movie would most probably not be as good as it is now.
To me, Batman wasn’t really the highlight of the show here. Of course you do get to see a handsome Bruce Wayne aka Batman [played by Christian Bale] as well as all the nice Batman gadgets, vehicles [there's a lambo too! and omg it crashed T_T] etc, but it’s really the darker side of the show that stood out in my opinion. To be honest, I was really drawn into the movie and could feel the atmosphere building up really well, and eventually having a little bit of chills over how far the Joker can go to push Gotham into chaos.
Though being a 2.5 hour movie, the movie is nicely paced, taking time to set things up, create some kind of mystery and suspense without appearing too be too draggy or boring. Not easy to find a great lengthy quality movie nowadays, but this movie just reminded viewers that such things are still very possible. =D
Audience rating wise, it seems that Singapore seems to be one of the more laxed huh, or maybe because the next highest after PG here is NC-16, which would be a tad too high as compared to the other countries huh. Oh wells, I guess a rating such as PG-13 might be more suitable for this movie due to its nature, but I guess it can’t be helped due to the rating system here.
A couple of other things:
- This movie is the Batman movie that doesn’t have the word Batman in its title.
- A few errors here and there I spotted, but all of it and more are listed on MovieMistakes.
A simply enjoyable watch to the very end. Magnificent performance by the cast and crew, especially by that of Joker. A must-watch! My take: 8.5/10. You don’t see me giving a score like this often. Iirc, the only other time was Ratatouille. Though both have the same high score, it’s due to quite different reasons.
