Dom’s Bday Celebration (part 2)

18 06 2008

Prologue: I promised to post an entry on this within the week. And I’ve kept to it =D

Actually it was meant to be a surprise for Dom on Sunday [idea by Huishan]. I even went to the extent of delaying my post which contained indications of another celebration on Sunday. Ah well, a sudden change of events made things a little more, erm, last minute. Lol.

Yar, so the meeting place was at Toa Payoh interchange [poor jon has to travel so far again...]. I think I reached first [well, I stay closest to the interchange...], followed by Jon then Huishan [Dom's camping at home waiting for us, while I'll talk more about zh later...]. Spent some time at NTUC buying the necessary ingredients for the 2 chefs of the day [if you exclude me, who do you get? ;)] and buying the birthday cake [solely paid by Huishan...] before heading over to Dom’s place.

Topped up our grocery shopping with 2 bottles of drinks [end up only used 1...] and a bottle of ketchup [Jon scared Dom's home supply not enough for his recipe mah...]. The previous [and only] time I went to Dom’s place was December ‘04 so it’s no surprise that I have already forgotten the way to his house. Even Huishan couldn’t remember the exact location and so we had a little adventure hunting for the right HDB blocks [wonders of SG buildings!].

/* Start of zihan’s story:
Apparently during our quest for Dom’s “base”, zh actually sent us a message asking for the address to head to, but sadly none of us happen to notice that until some 1 hour later when I did reply, though it’s kinda useless [i received another sms 5 minutes after the first one declaring that he's not coming liao, due to lack of response... not sure if that's the latest "deadline", but... ah nvm I reserve my comments =P] liao.
end of zihan’s story */

With a bit of searching, we finally arrived at Dom’s house, quite a while off the initial plans [time]. Without wasting much time, the chefs started preparing the food [to cook lor...]. Being the unskilled me [heh heh nvr step into kitchen to cook one...], I could only help with really simple tasks. I guess the highlight of the day [for cooking part...] is that dom [indirectly] broke an egg! Hahahaha. The egg rolled down the table, and of course, it broke spectacularly [maybe like humpty dumpty did]. Dom got suan-ed like mad after that. Hehe. Other than that, I think one [aka me] can only admire Jon’s and Huishan’s culinary skills while waiting for the food [heh heh].

After all that cooking [and boiling of soup, the feast is finally ready! Look at all that food in front of Dom [just look at his grin =D]!! Using the big pot of soup as reference, both that pot and the big dish in front of it are cooked by Jon! On the left side are the dishes made by Huishan. On the right are 1 plate of lychees and his birthday cake. Given only the 4 of us and Dom’s parents [they don't eat very much, compared to me... oops], we couldn’t finish all the food. Yeah well, the food [including cake] is really filling, so much so that I didn’t feel hungry for the next 8 hours and resulted in me eating only 1 meal that day [I skipped breakfast even. just imagine the food].

A couple more pics, this time showing the cake with candles
[2 big 2 small. no, NOT buying 4D]

After having a sumptuous meal, we have some fun with monopoly, although Dom was literally dominating us with his hotels. Home ground advantage kicking in once again huh. But since Huishan had to go back home and it was quite clear that Dom is basically going to win it [a matter of time nia], we declared Dom the winner =D

Yah, the main activities ended with that. And for some reason, I accompanied Jon to AMK station [Dom lives in Bishan...]. Yeah, considerably a lot of walking by my usual standards, since I’m so nua right? And yea, the food could last 8 hours! Hohum. Another fun and happening day ended, just like that. =D

Epilogue: Don’t know why this entry is a lot shorter. Maybe cos selecting a few nice pics, uploading all those pics + placing them nicely made me a little sian of writing? Hopefully Jon and Huishan blogs about this too. Probably more fun reading theirs, than mine =D

p.s. the pics all have a big resolution version. I don’t think I made a dent in the 3gb free space yet. Hah. And oh, if anyone manages to CSI Dom’s home address [with unit number] based on the pictures above, let me know ok?
