After watching The 6th Day, this movie is somewhat on a similar theme (cloning), though it’s made some years after Arnold’s film.
This story centres around a community that was made to think that the outside world is contaminated and there’s only the facility and 1 other Island out there that’s safe. Well supposedly anyway. The “Island” is just a fake memory imprint put into these clones, who serve as a replacement for various organs and parts, or just to be a baby carrier and things like that.
Lincoln 6E (E for echo) through various events and circumstances, chances upon the discovery of the reality of the “Island” and what the winners of the lottery are really going to. He then makes an escape with Jordan 2D and that’s when the real action and stuff kick in I suppose. The earlier part of the movie is just laying the ground works for the things to come. You can read for more details in the WIki article as usual. Nice work by all those people who contribute to these articles. Heh, saves me some typing here.
As such, this movie is actually somewhat controversial in nature due to its theme, and the way it portrays the “utilisation” of clones to achieve their various aims. The ethic issues of cloning never fails to strike me whenever they show “harvesting” of the clones. Eeks. I’ll probably never approve of such “harvesting” methods.
Well the ending is such that the clones gain freedom, though it is not clearly stated/shown what happens to all these people who actually have a “real” counterpart existing in the “true” world. Since there are quite many of them, I’d think they’d cause some major “problems” since their bio-signatures (including fingerprints) are the same. Ah well, 1 major plot hole perhaps? Or maybe it was done on purpose.
Onto some other comments:
1) It would seem that 6E’s dreams (or nightmares) involving him and Jordan on the boat are something like a look into the future, since even the real Lincoln couldn’t get to “date” the real Jordan. Haha, another plot hole.
2) During their initial escape, their helper, Tom did give them a credit card and some money. I do suppose the credit card wasn’t used between the first time they were tracked down and Jordan being “recaptured” since they didn’t really have their hunters on their heels. The money given by Tom looked a little little (wah nice) and he didn’t seem like the rich sort anyway. Not that I’m good at recognising US notes, but I do suppose that amount isn’t going to be enough to take a taxi and get some basic food and water. Since they are human clones, they do need to eat right? No sign of hunger or thirst either. Hmm, maybe they stole. =D
3) There are also other various weird holes that appear throughout the show that I’m rather lazy to list them here, else this entry will be another super long one. Lols.
Overall, I think this is better than The 6th Day. Thus, I’d give it 6.5/10. =D
