Those NNBs!!!
14 03 2008Relax. I’m referring to those Nokia & NTU Buses that the 151 service has in the fleet of, well, buses.
Well, I do know of the recent emergence of the NTU bus on the 151 since some days back, but it’s only today that I actually boarded that newly modified bus. For those who don’t know, one of the interchanges 151 stops at happens to be the Kent Ridge one, which is like in NUS, and of course, it passes by 3 or 4 bus stops (depending on which route) within NUS during its route from 1 interchange to the other. It’s really, really weird, and if I may say, kinda stupid to have such a bus when most of the passengers during school term will be “patronised” by NUS students.
Why is it stupid? For those who don’t know/haven’t taken this bus, it’s basically a bus filled with ads of NTU on the outside, and on the inside, the layout is somewhat similar to the Nokia counterpart in its unique alternative seating arrangement as compared to the normal buses, but there’s no “bar counter” to even do tutorials. Instead, some space is dedicated to putting a (lcd?) screen in the other side of the middle portion of the bus where people normally alight from, to advertise NTU. Yeap, there’s a video on loopback, promoting NTU. I do think NUS students don’t really want to listen to that, and perhaps more likely want a seat, and ideally be able to get some rest/shut-eye on the way back home, especially for those with longer journeys.
The only logical explanation I can give myself is that 151 passes by many educational institutions (NgeeAnn Poly, HCI, NJC, CJC and more??) that have potential students who will be making their way to univerisities after they complete their education (and ns for the guys) in that school. However, to achieve a similar coverage, they can use buses like 154 or 74 (no CJC for this one though), and yet these buses will not travel INTO NUS itself. Wonder what NTU + SBS are thinking? Trying to psycho NUS students to switch university? Go to NTU for SEP? Shrugs. Oh the only plus over the Nokia bus is that the NTU bus seems to have more bells available for people to press, since the Nokia one seriously lacks sufficient access to those important devices onboard.
Anyway, I had my Java midterms part 2 (the other 15%) earlier in the day. Did much better than my first one though, since this time the focus is on the data structures that was covered in the past few weeks instead of the syntax and basic workings of the modifiers/whatever-name-it-should-be. Made 2 mistakes I shouldn’t have since I kinda know the answer one, though the other 2 are honestly quite clueless and tikam-ed wrongly. Ah wellz. However, due to my “spectacular” failure in the midterms 4 weeks ago, my overall is still a fail (i mean less than 50%). Not sure what’s the passing criteria, or whether there’ll be a Bell curve (shouldn’t have I suppose since 1101s didn’t have), but I do really hope I’ll be able to pass this module. I guess it depends on what the format/content of the final exam that will decide my fate liaoz. The only consolation is that I seemed to have moved up the “rankings” a -little bit- since my “spectacular performance” 1 month back.
Still have 1 more midterms to go though (doesn’t seem so mid any more does it?), known as the big electrical monster, EG1108. It’s quite a monster considering it’s a 3MC module. Gotta piah (or at least “try”) to survive the negative marking system for the 20 MCQ test. Most likely will be invoking entries over the next couple of days. Heh.
