I guess this entry may come a little slow, especially to those KOF fans reading this. I was initially quite lazy to blog about this, but I thought I’ll just write my 2 cents worth. If I’m not wrong, this video footage was taken at some game fair/exhibition in Japan, where various companies showcase their latest products, or products that are going to hit the market in the near future.
It’s a short clip, and it doesn’t really show that much of the upcoming game. I guess it serves as a promo to get the attention of fans of 2D Fighting Games. After taking a look at whatever was available in the short clip, the overall feeling is one that’s rather mixed. At some point in time, I thought it felt a little anime-ish. At another I thought it’s similar to that of CVS1. The artwork seems a little different from the usual KOF fare too, which I’m still trying to get used to. Finally, there’s some major rework to the artwork and sprites of the characters and it’ll be on a newer type of arcade hardware. Cool~
Not much of the gameplay can be analysed from whatever is shown, so I’m not sure how the game will fair in terms of its gameplay, combos, strategies and stuff. I’m sure lots of these will come when the game is launched.
With the impending release of KOF98 Ulitmate Match, I guess KOF XII won’t be hitting arcades all that soon, even in Japan. For now, just sit back and watch the short clip. The only way to find out whether this game will fulfill expectations and anticipations is to wait for it to be officially available in the market (I’m guessing they’re currently not near the full product yet).
more coverage and pictures at the following websites (in Jap though).

p.s. I hope arcades here will import (buy) this game and also KOF 98 Ultimate Match. /hopes. It also makes me wonder if SNK and Capcom have spies all over each other’s company. Note to self: SF4 is also coming soon, with revolutionary rework of graphics (and apparently game system too). They always like to release games close to each other’s for the sake of competition huh…
