More than 3 years after his Kungfu Hustle, Stephen Chow is finally back with a new movie. I wished the movie would be a little longer though after watching the movie, I realise it’s not quite possible. Heh.
Yeah well, the pet/toy alien is indeed quite cute. I think much of the budget must have gone into the CG work for this central character of the show. The story is quite simple actually, though it has some messages to convey to the viewers. Some are said blatantly, while others need some simple inference.
Of course, being a Stephen Chow film, there are comedic scenes, and spoofs. Well, I could only really spot the spoof whereby the kid throws the glasses at his teacher and it explodes (reminds me of MI2). The funny stuff has to be seen for yourself in order to enjoy it. Reproducing it here (even if I could remember all that) will just lose its flavour. Haha.
Well, I hate to say this, but there seems to be some continuity issues with the make-up. Since in many scenes some of the characters have either a dirtied face/bruises, the make-up done for all those effects don’t remain consistent in closely linked scenes that are supposed to happen one after another in a short time. Other example: the clothing can look dry. crisp and ironed although it was drenched earlier in the day. And also, when Stephen fell from that height at the construction site, his body ought to be somewhat disoriented, but apparently in the hospital his body still looks rather complete in the sense that there aren’t obvious fractures/broken bones etc.
In other misc matters, I wonder why the female teachers in the school are made to wear QiPaos (well, there’s a scene with 3 female teachers walking together and they were all wearing that). Maybe it’s to provide some eyecandy for viewers? Haha, those who watched the show might understand what I’m trying to say. Ah wells. Maybe I’m thinking too much =P
My take: 6/10. Not exactly the best movie Stephen Chow has to offer in terms of comedy and stuff, but the overall feel is pretty good. Oh wells, the CJ7 is really the saviour of the show. So cute. Lol.
Lol, anyway below’s a YouTube clip of S.H.E. singing a song for CJ7, though I didn’t get to hear it during the movie up till half the credits… I don’t hear it being advertised on radio (YES 933 to be specific) as well. I wonder what’s the purpose of the song then… haha.
oops. 933 just played this song… lol…
…
well, i din mind the eye candy scenes. lol i guess my mandarin would be way better if i got her as my chinese teacher.
