斗剧07 Volume 1

24 12 2007

tougeki07v1_dvd_logo.jpgYeap, you got that right. Volume 1 of the series is on the game GGXX AC (as you can see from the picture). Once again, gotta thank the boss/admin of KOFIA for letting me to have the privilege of grabbing this series of videos to view some awesome gameplay at this annual tournament held in Japan. If you want a piece of the action, either work your way in the forums to earn a right to download, or maybe you could try places like Youtube (not sure if it’s being uploaded there).

Since the videos are separated into 3 segments, I think I shall use 3 mini-paragraphs too. Heh.

Top 32-16 teams: Wah, watched this in one sitting. More than 2 hours. Required some level of concentration on my part to try to understand the essence of what’s going on. From this I could already see some stronger teams, or at least some teams with some strong players (yea, they compete in teams of 3, each using DIFFERENT character). Some very nice display of skills which I thought are worthy to be added into the best collection, but I guess the best collection has to be really stringent on what’s being shortlisted into that. Some interesting ways of approaching the opponent shown throughout the various matches, which I guess is very applicable to various fighting games as long as they modify them to suit the game’s engine and stuff. From the top 16 teams, I could only expect more action & excitement to come! (yah, for a game I’ve never officially played)

Top 16-8 teams: Amazingly, the run time is approximately half the previous. Means that the average time taken, which should co-relate to the average competitiveness and gameplay level of each match have maintained some kind of proportional-ity (I don’t think that word exists, but heckz). Quite interesting to see some people who have never appeared in the top32 teams because they had no chance to appear! 1 Venom player really caught my eye as he (or maybe she) can really play mind games very well with his “projectile balls” (pardon me for not knowing the exact term) and has really helped his team make a comeback in this tournament when they were down 2-0. Seriously, I think that’s quite a feat to achieve, though it’s not uncommon in team-based tournaments. Props to him.

Top 8-winner: Wah seh, many close fights, nice comebacks, nice combos. Could feel the intensity even though I’m merely watching the video, and not there ‘live’ to see it happening. As usual, the videos do showcase the top 4 teams, at least their faces and each of them is allowed to talk for a bit before each match. Haha, one of the players dressed up in a Captain Sparrow style, but his team lost in the end and could only go home with a 2nd placing. Lols. Nice matches and all. =D

Hmm, that’s the end of the first volume. Hehe, more to come? Shrugs…
