All right, this movie is actually mostly presented in a Mockumentary way. Actually I didn’t know such a term existed, but after looking at its description, I realised that it’s what would describe the overall feel of this movie I got, somewhat.
Due to its nature of presentation, there’s quite a lot of talking (in the form of “interviews”), and it’s quite a bore actually (to me). Though sometimes it feels like it’s adding some “realism” into this animated movie, the talking is a put off to me after a while. Lols, especially the main story doesn’t really kick in so soon if you’re taking the “interviews” rather seriously.
However, the 2nd half of the movie is somewhat closer to the usual kind of animated films. To me, it’s this part that salvages the film, since I don’t exactly enjoy the content in front, though I admit the angles shown are quite fitting for its way of presentation.
For more details on the storyline, just read the Wiki article. Lots of information there. The summary is so long for an 85 minute movie. Well, that means lots of spoilers too. =P
Anyway, one of the more obvious parodies would be SPEN (Sports Penguin Entertainment Network), as opposed to the ESPN that exists in real life. There are also other trivia info available at the Wiki article, but I don’t seem to appreciate the most of them anyway. Heh.
Though many critics and sites find this a good movie, it’s not very much to my liking probably due to the style of its presentation (and too much talking). My take: 6/10.
