Japanese title: アイドルマスター XENOGLOSSIA
Interestingly, considering the anime is based on a game, this 26 episode series ain’t too bad. I mean, I have had bad experiences with anime titles that are serial-ised from a hit game (supposedly). Besides that, this show is actually a mecha series that features gals as the main characters. Well certainly it isn’t the first of its kind in the anime scene, but most of the other titles I found them to be boring.
Of course, being an anime title centered around gals, there’s bound to be lots (maybe not enough to some. shrugs. more than enough for me though. hohum) of fanservice. But okay lah, it’s not exactly a fanservice show since it still has its own storyline and action scenes to add more flavour to this show.
So the story goes that girls are chosen by this giant robots called Idols to pilot, with the main purpose of neutralizing falling pieces of the moon that was destroyed more than a century ago (story timeline). Of course, involvement with this organisation is to be kept secret, and there’s an enemy organisation that will continually try to cause trouble for the main characters, and contribute to the main storyline development as well. More details and plans of some of the seemingly not-so-main characters but important ones are revealed as the story progresses (hey, doesn’t that apply to many, many titles out there?).
The wiki page has enough information on the various Idols in the show so I shan’t really go into that. Each of them do get some screen time, but of course the more important characters’ Idols will have more screen time. Don’t go expecting stuff like those in Gundam though, cos it might just disappoint you.
Animation wise, pretty normal I guess. It’s about the standard you see for something belonging to this era. Artwork is somewhat similar to Mai Otome series and indeed part of the staff worked on that series before. As for the voice actors/actresses, I do recognise a few more familiar voices but still I can’t map them to some of the characters that they have voiced before. Ah well.
Overall, the series isn’t too bad for a mecha series since it’s slightly different from the usual flavour. But fans of Gundam might want to stick to that since i find them nicer (but that’s just me lah).
