Another DreamWorks production. As expected, the animation quality is there, taking care of the details and stuff. Pretty good job by them as usual.

Due to the success of Ratatouille, it’s not surprising that people will like to compare this movie with the former. Sad to say, this movie falls short of the Rat movie, and in some way makes it look a little bad (relatively). However, this movie still has its merits.

Well for one, this movie has a quite simple story, and the presentation of the whole thing seems to be targetted at kids mainly, but some of the “hidden” stuff and parodies/spoofs are things which I think the average kid will not be able to catch. So it kinds of falls short for both the young audience and the more mature ones.

The brief summary of the plot can be found at the wiki article, so I can spare some people spoilers. Go spoil yourself if u must, but don’t come blaming me for anything. =D Anyway, in the movie there are a few guest appearances of real-life celebrities, such as Larry King (who appears as Bee Larry King, the bee version of course) and Sting. They contribute to the movie most by saying/doing funny stuff. Not really that crucial to the story per se.

Anyway, there are quite a few references to real-life stuff, though I can’t exactly pinpoint them. However, when you watch it, you should be able to feel that it’s trying to convey something, or maybe you guys can find out what they are since I’m not exactly good at such things. Haha. Most of them are quite funny anyway, though it may not be crucial to the story at times. Lols.

And as for the way the movie ended, it felt kinda weird. It’s like super exaggerated, in my opinion. The (side)effects shouldn’t be that great in such a short time. Without bees, pollination may indeed drop but I don’t think it’s THAT drastic. And of course the effects of pollen isn’t that instant if I remember my pieces of bio knowledge correctly…

Overall, it’s still somewhat all right as a DreamWorks production, in terms of its animation. Though the story isn’t something very impressive, it still has its messages to tell the viewers. However, if you’re looking forward to something like Ratatouille, you’ll most likely be disappointed with this one. My take: 6/10
