This is a standalone movie, spinoff from the hit anime series Bleach. Apparently the wiki article says it’s set immediately after Ichigo saves Rukia in Soul Society. Sounds kind of misleading since if I remember correctly, Rukia needs some rest to recover after that whole arc. I do agree it’s set during the time frame of the Bounto arc though.

This movie is only a mere 90 minutes, yet it tries to give almost every important character, including the members of the squads and their captains some screen time. Obviously, this results in the movie being rushed at certain parts, and many “un-needed” scenes.

The plot summary on wiki sums up the storyline of this less-than-impressive movie. The story’s pretty ok, something like filler standard, but it’s just that 1.5 hours is not enough to cover everything properly and there’s a need to rush here and there. Perhaps this is one of the shortcomings of having spinoff movies from long anime series that require a huge amount of episodes in order to cover a decent story (with fighting time included). Thus, I usually don’t go expecting very much from such movies. Makes it less of a put off while watching.

Yah, like I mentioned earlier, too many people are forced to appear, probably to satisfy certain groups of fans. Though some only make some sort of cameo appearance with a couple of lines, many of them actually end up fighting alongside our main character in the Valley of Screams. While it does seem practical to end the story in the given time limit (1 hour according to estimate in the show), with so many captains, vice-captains and what-have-you, it’s kind of an overkill. Most baddies die within seconds after “Bankai!” is announced. Kinda lame if you ask me. Really just for the sake of letting viewers see the Bankai effect siah. Haha.

Well, at least the ending theme song for the movie is nice. I guess that’s how Aqua Timez became well-known in Japan. The wonders of anime and the things it can do for singers/groups/bands who want to have a foothold in the ever-changing Jpop industry. The lyrics are quite meaningful (there’s karaoke, so yeah can see the english translation of the lyrics). The group even have a opening song of Bleach (series) to their portfolio, so yeah they’re quite okay bah.

Overall, it’s quite a typical standard for spinoff movies based on successful anime series, usually those longer running ones. There are quite a few flaws, as mentioned above but overall it’s still quite acceptable, since fillers are sometimes worse than that. Haha. Watch this if you want.
