Running time: 96 minutes
Nicolas Cage plays a magician who actually is born with the ability to see things into the future, to be exact 2 minutes into the future that will have a direct influence on his life. Or so he’s supposed to anyway, with the exception of Jessica Biel involved in the “future time” where he seems to be able to foresee for an unknown amount of time.
Certainly, 2 minutes isn’t a long time, yet it shows you that just by knowing what could happen 2 minutes in the future can actually affect the decisions you make or the things that can happen.
Somehow, the FBI knows about his ability and even manage to narrow down to a short range of time that he can see the future. I wonder where they get all their information from (initially, that is). And even more amazingly, the crooks (in charge of smuggling the nuclear bombs) know that the FBI team that’s actively keeping tabs on their movement is actually looking for this magician. In no part of the show I could see a “traitor” within the FBI who could have leaked the information to the baddies. Perfect knowledge? Shrugs.
And even then, Cage must have been able to re-enact all the possibilities pretty quickly since a slight variation in your “future” actions will in one way or another, affect the subsequent events/occurrences. I have no idea how he can visualise all the possibilities in such a short time even though he’s been aware of this ability of his since he was 3. Imo, the number of possible occurrences of the future time is insanely huge and if Cage is able to analyse and choose a “best” next move, he might as well be termed a supercomputer instead of a magician =D
I only spotted 1 continuity error, which is at the scene that Cage was kissing Biel. At the “far shot”, Biel was clearly moving her hands upwards from Cage’s back at waist level, and instantly in the next close-up scene (with no apparent transition etc), her hands are at his ears already. It’s very obvious they shot it in 2 different angles and just put them together accordingly when editing. Sheesh. There should be more errors, so head over to the MovieMistakes page if you wanna find out more.
Plot wise, even the crooks who smuggled in Nuclear weapons didn’t get very much attention and focus. That’s even though they’ve brought in such a dangerous weapon that Cage was supposed to help locate to prevent/minimise damage brought to the city. As for the ending, Cage decides not to evade the FBI any more and aid them, on the condition that Biel will not be dragged into the whole incident (in which the outcome the production team decided to show was the nuclear explosion killing all the main cast of the show. However, with only 2 minutes of foretell time, it is hard to imagine a “happy-ending” outcome this time around, since his powers are so much more limited. Oh wells…
Much visual effects and superimpose were used int he making of this show. Some parts it looks so unreal that it isn’t funny. It just adds on to the “unenjoyment” of this show. Sighx.
My take: 5.5/10. As the title suggests, “Next please”. As in, please find a next movie to watch since it’s not all that entertaining. Not worth the 1.5 hours. =X Good thing I didn’t watch this in a cinema. Lols.
