Bambino!/バンビーノ!

It’s been a while since I last reviewed on a drama series. Hmm, in case you’re wondering, nope, I did not watch this after University started. Where got so much time to clear so many shows? I only have 24 hours a day, of which I have this, this, this and that, that, that many things to do. Speaking of which, I haven’t started very much during this recess week. In fact, I’m even more slack than during proper term time. Arghz.

Anyway, let me get on with the review. This is yet another manga adaptation. Sure is popular in Japanese shows. I’m sure everyone can read the short synopsis to find out what this series is about.

This show is also quite episodic like most jdramas, but at least Ban (main character played by Matsumoto Jun of Hana Yori Dango series) doesnt change his “appointment” at the restaurant every episode. Each obstacle usually takes about 1-2 episodes before it is fully overcome. There are a few comedy moments here and there that lightened the mood when it got a little depressing for Ban.

Some parts were a little boring though. I didn’t quite the way they tried to end the show. Suddenly, the owner runs off, 1 main chef quits and then Ban decides to go to Italy to learn more. Gah. Seemed a little rushed in some ways and seemed like the production team wanted to end the story asap since they were reaching the end of their allocated time slots of the season.

Anyway, I’m sure the cast of the show, have attended lessons to learn more about the job they are playing. For example, the chefs’ way of sampling 1 spaghetti noodle, or in the case of the waiter staff would be how they carry the plates and serve etc. Not forgetting some basic lessons on how to speak those few Italian phrases and dish names. Can tell some of them picked up these “skills” better than others, but at least it’s not as fake as some other drama shows I’ve seen before (need not necessarily refer to jap. hohum) in the sense of learning how to act properly in their respective roles.

And one more thing, about the video editing/post production. At certain junctures in each episode, they seem to have a clear indication of a new “chapter”, with a title/heading that goes along with it. It’s kinda bad in the sense that it’s like a spoiler for what’s to come since the titles are usually the main thing that’ll happen in the next few minutes.

Hmm, another watchable drama but it’ll never make it into all-time favourites. XD I wonder what series will be reviewed next. =D
