Friday the 13 + 1

14 09 2007

Today wasn’t really a great day. Filled with some suayness and a 1231Y quiz, how good can it be? Hehz. Shall leave the quiz “review” for later.

Hmm, to start things off, somehow Dr Ben managed to mistake me with Shane when he saw me sitting at the 3rd row from the front (which i usually do anyways) and then he actually managed to identify me when I dont belong to his recitation group nor do I appear very “godlike” in the iVLE forums. Sheesh, maybe my TA said something about me to Dr Ben, or because of my activity on the forums? Cheese, suddenly upgraded to “high profile” when my ability at Scheme is like less than satisfactory (compared to the friends around me…). I think it might be bad cos some people may think I’m quite pro when I’m not at all lor. Ahahaha. Ah wellz.

And then, the interesting weather had to start raining just right before I wanted to make my way from the Deck to Science fac for my maths tutorial which was supposed to cover taylor series (which is the thing that i dont quite understand) and stuff. Then… after walking a big round to the bus stop by utilising sheltered walkways, the rain actually stopped… GrRrr. Oh well, I did tell my mom it probably wont rain until around noon, which was about the time it started. Zzzz. I forgot by saying that it would affect me as well. Hahahaha… Ah well.

After maths tutorial, Zi Han wanted to go science library to borrow the recommended text for discrete structures so i just tagged along. Perhaps I seemed too relaxed about it since I didn’t bother to borrow the text even though there was another copy available and I was told that this text is very good. Indeed I took a peek at some of the contents while ZH was reading and it’s quite easy to understand and digest but being me, I just can’t be bothered. Ended up playing the tennis game on my HP for most of the time at the library (heh, how ironic. ppl go library mug). I’m actually mastering the (simple?) game better than any of my modules I’m taking now even though it’s only like my 3rd day playing it. Ahahaha. Oh wells, I learn games and academic stuff at very different rate and proficiencies. Lols. And well, time passes quite fast when u’re playing and it was time to head for LT19, the place for the first quiz (midterm?) of my NUS life.

Hmm, amazingly sooooo many people were already camping outside the LT even though I was also early by 5 minutes. Typical SG behaviour? No leh, the foreign scholars also camping there liao. As usual you can see the different types of people – those still doing last minute mugging (for an open book quiz), those who are chit-chatting away as though it’s nothing etc. Haha. Honestly I wasn’t very serious about the quiz since I heard that the X group got “slaughtered” even though their version has some tutorial solutions and soft-copy of lecture notes. That made me not to expect much from my own quiz, but as it turns out, the difficulty wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Interestingly, the difficulty of the quiz was somewhat like the past year’s sample given to use a few weeks back. Then again, being a bell curve it doesn’t necessarily mean a good thing after all… End up I couldn’t finish everything (oh well i nvr prepare for it wad) but I attempted those I know how to do (or at least have a much better idea on how to proceed). With some luck, I might get somewhere around class average, otherwise… …

It’s only at the end of the quiz that I found out that there are at least 2-3 “versions” of the quiz questions, but mostly it’s either jumbling up of the question sequence or slight modifications to the predicates but basically testing the same concepts. Great anti-copying technique even though we’re seated on alternate seats, making sure that even if you have long range peeking at people’s handwriting also no use since you dont know whether the person’s script u’re peeking at has the same sequence/questions as you do unless u can figure out how they place the scripts before we enter. The lecturer sure has many tricks and his unique style of doing things. Interesting, but may not be welcomed by some people. Hahah… Sometimes you just like his “uniqueness” yet sometimes u’ll just hate it so much. Haiz…

Anyway, I think i’m kinda screwed for my first quiz liao, which makes up 20% of my grade for this module. Another quiz coming up next thursday, before I can “enjoy” my recess week. Hopefully many people are taking that GEK module with a S/U mentality, so it’ll more or less be a little helpful to me perhaps? Hahahah… Then it’s a back-to-back 2 hit midterm combo on 2 Oct 8.30pm-9.30pm (Ma1505) and 3 Oct 10am-12nn (CS1101S). Sighx. The future still looks quite bleak. Hehz.

Will tmr be a better day?

p.s. this entry came a little late because I was busying playing international chess (on yahoo! games) just now. hic.
