Day 1 @ Uni

14 08 2007

To sum things up, day 1 was anything but a good one. I can hardly pinpoint anything that’s actually good about the Monday just passed. To start things off, waiting for 151 to NUS was unusually long. Ignoring the fact that I reached the bus stop 5 minutes before our meeting time, Zong and I didn’t get up the bus till like 11.15am, which is like 20 minutes of waiting for me, and not a single 151 passed by. That’s suay max.

Then after reaching NUS, the shuttle bus came pretty quick. Now, that seems quite good. However, due to our lack of knowledge of the location of LT32, we got off at the wrong stop, which meant more walking when we’re not very early for the noon lecture already. So reaching the LT a little short of breath wasn’t bad enough. Turns out the lecturer declared that the lecture will be an hour long instead of 2 because his voice isnt very good. >_<” And it’s as if it isn’t enough. It seems that he’s a HK-er (or so I think), judging from the accent he speaks with, which makes listening to his lecture a little difficult. I ended up starting on tutorial 1, since the topic he was covering was functions, which essentially most of the stuff is already taught in A maths, Maths C and what-have-you. The lack of printed notes (it wasn’t online when I did my printing) made it very difficult to concentrate on his lecture. I guess I’ll have to read up on my own when I print ‘em out (yes, it’s online now. lazy to move my printer into plugging range now). On a side note, I believe he’s a better lecturer than moi J1 FM tutor as he tries to teach you the concepts and stuff instead of simply reading off the notes/workings ONLY. Though he has the minus point of having a HK accent which I’m (we’re) not quite used to. Kinda understand why my OGL has to retake this module again this sem. Hehz :S

After my poor attempt in doing some questions (and the sub parts), which in fact is like 3 whole questions, the hour long lecture ended. Like finally. Yes, I know my speed at doing maths is atrociously slow, but hey, I had to dig out memories buried deep in untouched areas of my brain matter since A levels ended. Was a little happy I could do some questions though.

Then it was lunch with WK, Dom & Zong @ Science canteen. After which was a 4 hour break before GEK1505 lecture. When tutorials start, the break should not be so long if I manage to plan some tutorial in between which I will do so later in the day. Gonna plan at least 1 main plan and (at least) 1 backup plan for tutorial slots. Sometimes I really find this bidding/balloting thing a major pain. Anyway back to my lousy narration of my lousy day, during the 4 hour break, I embarked on something that WK had mentioned on his blog entry, which was continuation of doing tutorials. Encountered many, many difficulties in completing that few questions. The long break on academic studies has indeed affected my Maths solving ability greatly. =( I guess I need my notes, maybe TYS formulae list, and maybe help from whoever that can still remember his A level stuff. After 3 hours, I did whatever I could do within my current ability and spent the remaining hour talking random stuff with WK and Zong, while waiting for the 6pm lecture to begin.

And finally began the long awaited 6pm lecture. Sad to say, it’s another boring lecture. This time no accent, but loves to read off the screen, with occasional minor paraphrasing from the text on screen. And the things taught during the lecture is basically nothing worth taking down on paper. However, no notes/materials uploaded yet. Hic, luckily got Dom to provide some info since he took it during Special Term. No announcements for GEK1505 tutorial time slots yet. How to plan siah~~ I guess I shall do my best for the other 4 modules first. Hopefully GEK1505 can slot in nicely somewhere when the tutorial balloting starts.

Thankfully, the lecture did not last till 8pm as stated in the timetable. Even though it ended at 710pm, that didn’t mean I could go home early. After taking ISB C to opp the Music Conservatory, waiting for bus is another torture. Since the bulk of people got up at the stop opposite central library, buses were all so full. By the time I could get up a bus, though squeezing my way up, it was already 33 minutes. Sighx, truly a lousy day without any long odds working in my favour. That ends my lousy day 1 @ school after 2.75 years.

I hope day 2 (wednesday) will be better. It better be as I will have 3 lectures on different computing modules, and only 1 hour break throughout the entire day. Sheesh. Shall enjoy the rest of my tuesday to the fullest. =D “Free” days dont come by easy anymore, so treasure your “free” days if you have any.
