Death Note

As usual, before I begin on anything, the standard 2 links on info on this series. I wonder if it’s even needed for a series like this. Anyway,
1) ANN
2) Wiki

I do suppose the anime follows closely to the original manga storyline, unlike the live-action counterpart. But after watching the entire series, I kind of understood why the live-action movies simply ended at the L vs Kira arc and didn’t want to introduce Near and Mello, which would mean a 3rd movie and easily more money.

The best part of this series imo, is the L vs Kira arc. It’s really a battle of wits between these 2 geniuses (both got full marks for Tokyo University entrance exams for all subjects). If it weren’t because I’ve already watched both live-action movies while the anime were still in its early phase I’m sure it’ll be even more enjoyable to watch that portion of the story.

With the death of L and introduction of Mello and Near, I found Death Note to be less interesting and felt it was merely a tool simply to make an end to the story. After all, they can’t let a “bad guy” win at the end right? Was watching through the M&N arc to find out the actual storyline that the live-action movies modified to omit. It’s no wonder some of my friends tell me the later part of Death Note isnt nice after they’ve read the manga quite some time back.

Overall, it’s still a nice series to watch, especially if you haven’t read the manga or watched the movies. Though it’s unlikely anyone who’s interested in this and yet hasn’t read the manga or watched the movies, I will recommend to all those who havent seen/read this to do so. People who have read the manga can choose not to watch this series as I think for such a series, moving scenes and voice actors are not as significant as some other anime series due to the nature and presentation of the story.

Another good series has ended, hope I’ll chance upon another one :)
