Japanese title: 世界の中心で、愛をさけぶ
Now that I’ll be at home for the most of the week since I opted not to go for any of the NUS faculty camps while most of the people I normally go out (on a more regular basis) with are going for their respective camps, I guess I will be putting up more reviews (i’m starting to wonder if what i’m doing is considered a review) over the next 4 days.
Well, the 1st would be a Jap Drama titled… (goodness it’s already up there).
Some info: wiki @ d-addicts
Dominic recommended this title to me a long time ago but I didnt want to watch this ‘cos I knew this story is a sad one. You know, those with someone dying from an illness at the end… 1 Litre of Tears had dealt too much “damage” to me, so I was hesitant to watch this show all along. After all, there’s a lot of positive reviews about it anyway.
Storyline: Just read the summary from the Wiki article. Lol.
11 episodes to tell such a story could be a drag to some since you already know the “ending” to the events happened 17 years ago. Though the flashbacks seems to progress rather slowly at least the production team managed to separate each episode pretty well as well as linking it back to current time where the now much older main character will express some thoughts and stuff before going back to more flashbacks yet again. Well, 1 Litre of Tears must have given me some kind of tolerance to this type of show since I “survived” this really well in the end. Haha.
Anyway, great cast for this show though the main leads look a little old in their school uniform (and they are at the point of filming). But at least their acting makes up for it. Apparently the best during that season (didn’t watch the rest of the shows. duh) since they were rewarded with many awards during that quarter’s Television Drama Academy Awards (see the wiki article). In fact, it must have been the best drama of that season since it bagged most of the awards. Heh.
Perhaps you might think it’s a fluke but at least for the female lead (no idea why she won it for best supporting actress and not best actress), she really put in a lot of effort into this one. While watching the show (before looking at the wiki page), I could tell that she really shaved bald and clearly lost some weight. Though some might think it’s for becoming more famous and recognised in the scene, I think even then not all actresses will be willing to do that since having nice looking hair and a good figure are very important to females, what more artistes in a competitive Japanese entertainment industry. Must have spent a lot of effort reverting back to “normal” after filming for this show ended.
The theme song is also indeed good and worthy of the award. Read the translation for the lyrics and I thought it’s quite meaningful and suited the drama well. Must have made the singer more popular with the airing of this show.
Really so many good things in this show that Jdrama fans ought to watch this some point in time. :D
Well that’s all for now. More to come. :)
